We have each met, at some point in our lives, a Pauper with a lot of money, as well as a, Wealthy Man with very little money. I don’t mean pauper or wealthy in the poetic sense, but in the literal financial sense, and nevertheless, the pauper has a lot of money, and the wealthy man has very little money. I want to emphasize as well, that I am not referring to the teaching of our sages (-Ethics of Our Fathers, Chapter 4, Mishna 1), “Who is rice? He who is happy with his lot.” I literally mean it from the practical financial perspective.

Well then, what gives? If I am speaking from a financial perspective, then how can a wealthy man not have a lot of money, and a pauper have a lot of money?! The answer lays in the individual’s ownership of, and relationship with, his money. And in order to understand this, we are going to explore the deeper mystical secrets of the teaching of our sages (-Talmud, Nedarim 41a; Talmud, Kesubos 68a), “There is no pauper but in da’at, and no rich man but in da’at.” The translation most often used for da’at is knowledge, and nin this teaching of our sages we are referring to da’at as mindset. However, in Chassidus da’at represents the most complicated of the three intellects, Chochmah (Wisdom), Binah (Understanding) and Da’at (Recognition and Feel).

In this lecture, through unearthing the secrets of da’at we will understand the secret of being truly wealthy.

This lecture is based primarily on a maamor (-Link) the Rebbe delivered, on the 13th of Tammuz in 1969, exploring the spiritual dimension of the prayer of Moses.
