Description

"A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently...”
-Abraham Lincoln; Illinois State Capital June 16, 1860

β€œAnd these are the offspring of Isaac the son of Abraham, Abraham begot Isaac.”
-Genesis 25:19; Mount Sinai 2448 (1313 BCE)

Amazingly enough Abraham Lincoln was teaching us what the Torah, in this week's Torah-portion was teaching us.

If Issac was the son of Abraham, then obviously Abraham begot Isaac! Why then the double language in the verse?

Abraham and Isaac represent two different sides of the isle, and a house divided against itself cannot stand. Thus, the Torah emphasizes that the two sides of the isle are not separated against each other! "Isaac the son of Abraham, Abraham begot Isaac.”

This lecture takes us through the mystical layer of this verse, the mystical layer of Abraham Lincoln's most famous line of his House Divided Speech, and of the mystical layer of both sides of the isle.
