The words Unconditional Love in themselves are so soothing. The mere thought that we could be loved unconditionally is such a healing to our very existence in its most existential core. Once a colleague told me as follows: “There is nothing you can do or not do that will make G-d love you any more or any less!” Once again, I felt that soothing and healing surge through me. However, something deep within me rejected this belief, finding it in contrast to how I understood G-d and His relationship with mankind. I realized that I am in conflict with what I want to believe, with what I find as the ultimate truth of Torah and especially as explained in Chassidus, and nevertheless, somewhere in my mind, as it was formed by childhood experiences of parents, siblings, teachers and friends, I find this teaching to be heresy.

Of all things, to find the most fundamental truth as taught by the Rebbe over and over again, as heresy…

In truth, it isn’t the teaching that I was struggling with, but with the mere concept of Unconditional Love. It seemed to be but another Disney Concept, and I didn’t want to be let down again by my childish belief in a non-existing magic.

So, let’s try and wrap our minds and hearts around G-d’s unconditional love for each and every one of us, so that we once and for all be freed of a prison called: Abandonment.
