University of Alabama-Birmingham. Prior to the Chargers, Ty made stops with the Washington Redskins and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thinking his career had ended, he bet on himself and sought out workouts in the CFL. He had a 2 year stint with the BC Lions, earning Canadian Football League (CFL) All-Star each season. Ty has been characterized as a kicker who can punt, however, in 2019 he attempted 9 field goals and 48 punts as an NFL Rookie. This episode paints the picture of a young athlete’s relentless pursuit of an NFL Career.
Ty has been overlooked and undervalued his entire career. In 10 years he watched others get scholarships at top programs like the University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, the University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, and other top NCAA programs. Picked up by UAB, Ty made the most of it, having a solid career. The same continued throughout his early experience during workouts with NFL & CFL clubs. Ty found a slimmer of hope to continue after being cut multiple times. This fueled him to capture workouts, then preseason slots, and eventually a regular season roster spot. Between cancelled flights and injuries, Ty’s resolve and mental toughness allowed him to persevere. Excellent wisdom erupted in the episode when a similarity was drawn between kicking in the NFL and the mindset between PGA golfer Jordan Spieth and his caddie Michael Greller.
