About a year ago, I saw more fireflies in my yard than I'd ever seen in one place before. I don't use this word lightly: I was in awe. I experienced wonder.
And naturally, I sang about it. (This song is something of an unofficial sequel to that song.)
This year, I've been on the lookout for the same phenomenon. And last night was pretty good. Clear night, stars above...
That's when it hit me that I had to write the haiku for today's song, rather than finding somebody else's. I had a specific experience, and the haiku I made captures it somewhat.
How do I sing awe? How do I sing wonder? How do I become enough of a musician, enough of a singer, enough of a composer, enough of an improviser to be able to express that experience with any reasonable degree of success?
I did the best, the very best, that I could do in the time allotted.
