This track is a reply to “SSS Prompt 25: Alive!” More on the Society for Spontaneous Singing at http://singthis.org .
A reply to a fairly challenging Prompt, as I experienced it. There were simpler ways to approach it, I'm sure. But to me, it boiled down to this:
"How is it, to be alive? How would you impress upon another how it is for you to be alive? What ought they to realize about it?"
This, today, is how that sounds for me.
I'm surprised to find that this caused me to seek what joy could be found in a mostly-minor chord progression (but, tellingly, with a prominent Picardy third [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picardy_third]). I suppose it's like that. It also put me in the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperative_mood#English] -- it's a very bossy song, exhorting you to feel and taste.
But, dammit, it's like that for me. To be alive is to feel, perceive, experience -- the wonderful and the horrible and everything in-between. And while we're here, we're here, so let's be here ...and: affect all that we can, in the most positive way we can muster.
This too shall pass.
But it aint passed yet!
