Description

Maybe Bas van den Hout is, most of all, a collector. Of found objects, literature, images. From there, the Dutch artist works with them, carefully with material and time: “If you come across an object day after day it becomes part of you. It is in the back of your mind. And from there, things can grow, because it is part of your history, part of your memory.” In the end, it is not about appropriation, rather the opposite.

Interviewed by Olaf Winkler and Batsheva Ross.
