From growing mushrooms to our financial system and how we value things and meanings: Within a wide range of means, Philip Janssens creates works that literally or metaphorically grow in his studio. The studio becomes a place of experimentation, like a laboratory, in which creation emerges from a framed structure. As soon as a work enters the world, nature, site and viewer take over. It is not up to the artist to maintain ultimate control.
