In the first episode of the series, Dr. Simon Hodson speaks with Dr. Franz Gatzweiler about how are Data-Knowledge-Action (DAKAS) used in cities. Data-Knowledge-Action systems make use of scientific and quantitative data and help in creating intelligent urban systems.
Dr. Simon Hodson is the Executive Director of CODATA. Dr. Hodson is an expert on data policy issues and research data management. He has contributed to influential reports on Current Best Practice for Research Data Management Policies and the Science International Accord on Open Data in a Big Data World. Most recently he chaired the European Commission’s Expert Group on FAIR Data which produced the report Turning FAIR into Reality. As part of his CODATA role, Dr. Hodson is closely involved in an ISC and CODATA initiative to improve the coordination of standards for data integration and interoperability for interdisciplinary research and in the coordination of the CODATA Data Policy Committee.
Dr. Franz W. Gatzweiler is the Executive Director of the International Council for Science’s global programme on Urban Health and Wellbeing. Dr. Franz studied Agricultural Science at Bonn University and International Agricultural Economics at the Humboldt University of Berlin. His doctoral research topic at Humboldt University was on the “Nature of Economic Value”. He teaches courses at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the University of Bonn. Currently, Dr. Gatzweiler is executive director of the global interdisciplinary programme on “Health and Wellbeing in the Changing Urban Environment: a Systems Analysis Approach”, sponsored by the International Council of Science (ICSU), the United Nations University (UNU) and the Interacademy Medical Panel (IAMP).
