Floyd was born in White Plains, NY, and educated in the White Plains Public Schools system. He attended Howard University on an academic scholarship and majored in Architecture and also studying computer science. Using his architecture and computer science background, he worked for several computer-aided design firms as that industry developed. Later as a software sales representative, he was employed by industry leaders, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Adobe. Mr. Thomas has deep roots in Caroline County having spent every summer of his childhood here at the home of his grandmother. In the mid-’80s, Floyd achieved a childhood dream when he and his wife, Linda made Bowling Green their home.
In 1989, Floyd managed a transfer from his Fairfax office to Richmond and reduced his daily commute time by three hours. He decided to invest those hours in community service and worked in local politics and various community activities. In 1991, he was elected to the Caroline County Board of Supervisors and has served as Chairman eight times including two consecutive terms in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Thomas is the senior member of the Board and served as its Vice Chairman last year.
