This time returning artist Protuberance treats us with a showcase mix from the discography of netlabel Mahorka from Bulgaria.
About:
For nearly 20 years, being one of the pioneers of the netlabel scene, the Bulgarian “Mahorka” has been keeping a steady output of experimental electronic music. With nearly 300 releases in the label’s catalog, some of which also in limited physical editions (some beautiful cassette tapes and digipak CDs), impressive roster of artists, both established names and newcomer talents (the “rise to fame” of quite a few of them starting from their debuts on Mahorka, e.g. Stév, Amotken, Moki Mcfly, Soul Flask, Black Vortex, Ab Uno, Sevensy…) from around the world and across the whole “genre” spectrum, defining initiatives and collaborative projects as the label-defining “Music for elevators” VA series, presenting different artists’ approaches to “ambient”, the “Eastern Depths” compilations of deep and trippy electronic music from Bulgarian artists, the “Mahorka Remixed” series and the special Netlabel Day reworks releases, Mahorka has become an important scene musical spectacles and sorts of institution when it comes to pushing and naturally un-defining “genre” boundaries, where electronic music production organically interacts and fuses with jazz, metal, industrial, hiphop, neoclassical and world music, with electronic, electroacoustic, vocal and instrumental experiments. In the context of “….” we decided to do some representative extract of atmospheric ambient, melodic IDM, trip hop, dub, chillout, techno and abstract electronic from the label output through the years.
The mix was done in late 2020. The selection was done together by Ivo Petrov �C the man behind Mahorka and Ivelin Iliev a.k.a. Protuberance, who came up with the idea of such mix. Protuberance is an important artist on the label roster besides being important collaborator and supporter, with 4 albums, different compilation appearances and remixes coming out on Mahorka through the last 8 years, besides being one of the main driving forces behind the “Eastern Depths” compilation series. Ivelin also did the mix itself in his unique style, taking us on a trip through the pre-selected tracks, drawing some picturesque new soundscapes and introducing fresh new vibes switching across the genres and directions - from angelic chill ambience, through dark industrial landscapes, biomechanical IDM sculptures, blending in some trip hop and downtempo beats.
