Trance is our perception of reality, but at a very deep level.
A significant part of the spiritual path is recognizing and understanding trance states and learning how to direct them toward the more divine octaves of perception. As we trance-form, we transform, we perceive our reality in new ways. And we see ourselves in new ways as a result.
There are times when we feel transformed from matter into pure energy; when we can step outside of time and observe it moving so slowly, and step back in; when we can do the physically impossible; when we can anticipate “accents” we have never heard and hit them perfectly; when we experience a sense of timelessness, a sense of connection to the “otherworldly”, when we experience abilities and behaviors beyond the social or physical norms, reduced sensitivity to pain, exhilaration or ecstasy, feelings of transformation within the self. A sense of the ineffable, of catharsis, of increased creativity; and, if a group experience, a sense of “community”.
What we experience is a particular state of Trance: It is the Dance.
