This week on Chasing Artists with XENJA, we chat with singer/songwriter Sam Small about the songwriting process, touring, and his new EP Hazel.
Guest Bio
Sam Small is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and poet. Sam’s music is intimate, intricate, and lush in lyrical imagery with seemingly as much influence from music as poetry and literature. Sam, while a prolific writer, didn't release his musical debut, Hazel, until 2018. Hazel is a collection of modern folk songs recorded live in one night. Mitch Mosk of Atwood Magazine writes, "Acoustic music has an inherent tendency to feel raw and naked, but Sam Small’s debut EP feels all the more exposed: Humble and honest, Hazel is an intimate and timeless look at modern life through the eyes of a singer/songwriter and his faithful guitar… Don’t miss this embittered, starry-eyed artistry. Sam Small may be a new name, but his tale is classic; as old as time.” Sam is also a touring and session musician and a member of Man Man.
