To be human. Is to be alive. Is to be authentic. Is to have choices.
Today we are talking about a subject near and dear to my heart. The LGBTQ+ community. I am going to be honest, I am doing this podcast for several reasons, but the number one reason is for selfish reasons, to educate myself more. My fiancé’s son is a straight transmale and I have had the joy of watching him slowly blossom into a vibrant and happy human. Becoming his real authentic self after being submerged in a world of pink and dresses for far longer than he would have liked. Knowing he still has a ways to go in his growth, I know I need as much insight as possible. So as always I am here to learn with the audience!
For those of you that don’t know, LGBTQ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning. These terms are used to describe a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, and we will be diving into what that means. The LGBTQ+ community celebrates diversity, individuality, sexuality and pride. In certain parts of the world this community continues to face discrimination in their personal lives, their workplace and access to critical care. This trauma associated with unequal treatment many times results in abusing drugs and alcohol and worse yet, suicide. Today we have a brilliant panel filled with individuals that understand the challenges that are associated with this community. They are here for two main reasons. One, to give inspiration to those in hiding. Two, to give insight to those that are unsure how to interact with this community. I believe that most individuals are living in a state of not knowing, and because of that they are scared. Open communication is always the KEY to unlocking the unknown, so today we have dedicated 2 hours of our day to educating the masses! The more we educate, the more we can tip the scale. We are about to be raw, real and vulnerable. The topics you will observe have been handpicked by the individuals on this panel. We will be covering an array of topics, join us!
