Description

Kazanchis / Togo Street / 9.017613, 38.787066 / Meskal Feast (Feast of Fire) is one of the most important religious holidays celebrated in Ethiopia / The preparation takes all day and everwhere you can see how much attention the Ethiopians pay to it / The most important celebrations take place in the centre of Addis Abeba on a representative square where there is a large state procession with the greatest personalities (with the president of the country in the front) / This festival also takes place on a smaller scale in every district, every street where there is a enormous fire after dark made of a huge pile of branches / This is when a group of neighbours gather around the fire commemorating the discovery of the True Cross of Christ in 326 A.D. by Empress Helena, while eating, drinking and playing music together / In this sacred time there is a solemn but relaxed and joyful atmosphere that I tried to retain on this recording //
