May 13, 2017 / 16:51 / 42.361583, -71.056083 / A Dollar A Box! /农贸集市 / Haymarket is Boston’s historic outdoor market where you could find the biggest produce bargain / A box of fresh strawberries is as low as 99 cents / But what attracts me is its preservation of the face-to-face interaction between people that is largely missing in many chain grocery stores / Today, the market finds a diversity of the sellers and buyers / On a warm day, the air is filled with the aroma of fresh produce as well as the lively conversations of people / I stood at a narrow path between a vegetable stand and a cheese stand / The plastic covers for the tents were flapping in the wind / A young girl was trying to help bag the vegetables / A man shouts, “Dollar, dollar, dollar!” to attract customers / A man walked by and jokingly asked if I was holding a camera / Going to Haymarket reminds me of the time when buying produce depended entirely on visiting the local produce markets / Back then, buying things meant talking with people //

Li Wang (https://soundcloud.com/genobunny) grew up in a coastal city in south China, where the industrialization dramatically shifted the natural landscape / In her childhood, she spent a lot of time taking adventures in the woods with her puppy / There she made friends with animals and plants / Later Li continued her adventure with nature at a molecular level / She explored the behavior of genes in a biology laboratory / Although Li enjoyed the process of solving complicated scientific problems, she discovered her desire to work with image and sound / When Li came to America, she carried her curiosity for biology into the process of media making, as a way to understand human minds and emotions / Soon after she began Emerson College’s Media Arts program in Boston, sonic elements became a critical part of her artistic explorations / She is intrigued by the soundscape that is shaped by the architecture, human activities and nature //
