16:00 / February 27, 2017 / 49°17'20.36"N, 123° 2'10.35"W / Parking trains - New Brighton / New Brighton Park is in the far Northeastern reaches of Vancouver’s East Village neighbourhood (formally Hastings Sunrise) / I lived in this area for many years in my twenties and New Brighton became a staple for my weekly jogs / The park possesses an immense musicality, nestled within the ceaseless noise of urbanized industry / I would always stop on my runs to listen and watch trains as they pulled into the shipping yard / In this particular recording a train abruptly stops at around the four minute mark, creating an unexpected juxtaposition between the creaking metal components and the ensuing near-silence / It was something I wasn’t expecting and have come to really appreciate about the recording / Like an intermission in a play, the final two minutes become a welcomed space for reflection //
