Episode 7 of Ruck up Buttercup Interview with Brave for my Family Davidson Whetstone and his Dad Dave.
Ruck up Buttercup is a podcast hosted by Deployed Love with Co-Hosts Sabrina Johannes, and Ashley Brown. Join us in a fun conversation each month, about a different topic, and how it works into our lives as military spouses, military children, and friends.
On this episode of Ruck up Buttercup Sabrina, and Ashley sit down and have a really heartfelt conversation with Davidson Whetstone and his dad Dave about their book Brave for my Family. Davidson wrote the book when he was very young and his father helped by illustrating it. We touch on beautiful topics of what it means to be a military kid, and how Dave being injured on a deployment was hard to deal with but also brought really fun experiences into their lives including meeting now President Joe Biden.
Davidson’s advice to military kids who are going through deployments with their parents gone is “Keep praying, and just stay hopeful, and hold on a little longer until he comes home.” It was really nice as a parent to hear a child’s encouraging words to their peers and to see that through hard times they remain resilient!!
During our conversation we also got to hear from an active duty military member really their perspective on how “being in the military is a family business” that everyone who is involved makes sacrifices and we are all in this together. Like he said, “each deployment is another rock in the ruck sack, it gets harder and you get stronger with each one, but it doesn’t really get easier.” That really encompasses the truth of it, not matter how many times the military separates military families it doesn’t get easier. There is different challenges and different routines we get used to but it remains a new deployment and is still hard.
Make sure you get yourself a copy of this beautiful book, Brave for my Family by Davidson Whetstone. For any military kid in your life!
