Sam Filmer is a Melbourne based artist and performer of ambient music. Filmer's love for ambient sounds involved from a childhood passion for tapes and circuit bending, evolving into humble tinkering which developed into a series of effected guitar performances at ambient festival Dronestock. Alongside an interest for DIY instruments and effects, Filmer began his cinematic audio/visual project under the moniker Em Vécue Aquieu.
Filmer's ‘Illuminated Celestial Caverns’ is an electro-acoustic journey from a carefully prepared network of electronic circuits. Set in dynamically reverberated environments and inspired by the immediate processes of early sound-effect pioneers, an ensemble of synthetic instruments is conducted through generative step-sequencing. Live-recorded, mistakes are embraced as a result of intentionally random manipulation, coexisting with ebbing structures and building melodies.
