Scarpin is the eponymous project of Sydney-based producer Michael Scarpin. His compositions gift the listener with only what is necessary. Drum and bass lines are deliberately spartan, while germane samples act like beams of light penetrating dark abandoned zones. The effects are hypnotic and often brutal. Get Scarpin's release HABITUAL from Sydney’s premier music company GRUPO Records (Party Dozen, ARSE).

Michael Scarpin on his soundtrack:

"LOSS is all about the unexpected passing of my father Robert Scarpin earlier this year.

Part 1: The disorientation of spending 24 hours in the hospital trying to make sense of the situation. The consoling of family, trying to stay calm. Bedside, saying goodbye.

Part 2: Reality sets in. Panic. Anger.

Part 3: Sadness and disillusionment.

Almost everything used was written within a month of his death. It wasn't until reflecting on it later that I realised what I had written and how it related.

As with everything I have ever made I was helped by Jonathan Boulet (Party Dozen, Pleasure, ARSE). A long time family friend and band-mate, Jonathan contributed drums, mixing, and a few creative touches. Part one has consistent audio breaks (sounds broken, but isn't) which I really think conveys the emotions explained above."
