Story Behind the Song

Way back in 1989 I was with a few of my closest friends just relaxing and shooting the breeze. Jerry Wilder's wife Wanda was celebrating her birthday and Skip Fennell and I dropped by to join in the festivities. Anyway, somewhere in the conversation we came up with the idea of writing a song together. To make a long story short, a year later we completed this demo with the help of Matthew Allen and Lloyd ‘Spider’ Moore, two other long time buddies. The message of this song is as timely today as it has ever been that's for sure .

Lyrics

I hear shots in the night
The story's on the news
There was a girl wounded in the fight
Her precious life we will lose

Civilian plane shot from the sky
And little babies die
I don't know who is to blame?
We all should be ashamed

Fightin' over money and over land
Young soldiers take a stand
'Round the corner 'round the globe
No more patience no more Job

Unjust law enforced with fire
We got bombs for sale and guns for hire
Tell me who is to blame?
We all should be ashamed
(Instrumental interlude)

Non-violent demonstration
teargas suffocation
Flowing tears of senseless pain
The grim reaper strikes again

Air land and sea
So much self-made misery
I don't know who is to blame?
Still we all should be ashamed

Violence and crime
On and on through the history of time
Hoping for a new generation
Who are weaker but wise

Star wars handguns
Star wars handguns
Star wars to handguns
everybody needs some
It's just fear in disguise
Can't we be
weaker but wise?

Star wars to handguns
Everybody think they need some
It's just fear in disguise
Can't we be
weaker but wise?
