Heard at Heiners Bar playing tunes late into a quiet autumn night, @MARLAIS caught our attention with his sensitivity which led to discover more and more of his sonic universe through the music he makes on labels like Treibender Teppich or @Kin-ship and the one he plays out when DJing at bars or for his monthly Gurkenmusik broadcast on @MutantRadio.
After watching some of his videos, @ecoutesauvert invited him back in Nov. 2021 to play a concert at a sold-out triple bill show at Loophole, along Neukölln co-alumni @cv-vision and @jaguarnome, where his talent was lay bare to see & hear.
MARLAIS sings traditional British and Irish folk songs in a traditional acapella way and also set to a sonic tapestry of organ drones, arpeggiated flutes and ambient textures that depict a mystical & romantic world. These folks songs in their stunning simplicity can be hypnotic, evocative and even subversive.
