The PSMLS presents a much-needed class on the Hungarian Counter-Revolution of 1956. We’ll be delving into some of the background information of Hungary before and during WW2 with the fascist Horthyite regime, as well as the conditions which led to the 1956 Counter-Revolution after WW2. The class will examine the 1956 counter-revolution itself and the response to it by the USSR, something that is misrepresented by western sources. Lastly, we will draw parallels between this event and more recent events, such as the Euromaidan coup in Ukraine in 2013/2014.
