On December 7th, 1989, in mourning for the Cuban internationalists who fell during the fulfillment of civil and military missions in Africa and other parts of the world, held in El Cacahual (the place that keeps the remains of Antonio Maceo and his assistant Captain Francisco Gómez Toro, as well those of other Cuban patriots), Fidel Castro spoke about the imminent counter-revolution in the Soviet Union and the impact it would have on Cuba.
