ABOUT THE PLAY
Jason and Bryan—two Evangelical teenage boys in 2004 suburban Kansas—don’t have much experience being gay. But they have opinions about which men at church are the hottest. And they have time on their hands. Until it runs out.

PLAYWRIGHT’S NOTE
Writing this play was a chance to rewrite my late boyhood. Rather than isolation, what would it have been like to have had a gay friend? And a tiny, sort-of safe space to talk with that friend about the hot dads at church? Living long enough to look backwards and reimagine is a very lucky break. This script is me cashing in that luck, and praying for that same luck to reach queer and trans kids everywhere.

Hottest Church Dads is realistic. It’s not sad, or doom and gloom. It doesn’t lie about what life is like. I really appreciate the way it represents a lot of the humor that people in these situations have to run to in order to keep themselves sane.
