Hear excerpts from our exciting first Café Culture session on fairy tales and find out how the language and images of the fairy tale were chosen to appeal to children, whilst their stories are often anything but child friendly.
Our speakers Mererid Puw Davies (UCL German) and Tom Lundskaer-Nielsen (UCL Scandinavian Studies) explore the language of the fairy tale, and question received ideas about the form's morality, asking where fairy tales come from and what functions they perform in relation to children.
Find out more about tales such as 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Bluebeard', and about how fairy tales relate to 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
