JUPITER'S MOONS

These four largest moons of Jupiter are known as the Galilean Satellites on account of Galileo Galillei being the first to see them in 1610.

Io, the closest to Jupiter, displays huge voclanic activity. It's very hot.

Ganymede is the largest satellite in the solar system. It possesses an outer shell of ice.

Europa is the smallest of the four, like Earth's moon. Under its frozen surface there are oceans where life might exist. Its distance from Earth is 390 million miles.

Callisto is famous for its craters, but shows no volcanic activity.

These four moons are named after Jupiter's lovers in Roman mythology.

Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System. ITs volume is 1321 times larger than Earth, and its mass 316 times larger. Despite this, it has the fastest rotation in the Solar System, completing a whole rotation every 10 hours.
