I woke one morning nine years ago sensing a call to pray for prisoners around the world - and as soon as I reached the sound engineer's house I started praying into the nearest microphone. It feels long overdue to release this track now!
The music is very gentle - Vivaldi's Flute Concerto, commonly known as 'Del Gardellino' - 'The Goldfinch', interpreted by Nicola Gerrard, Fontane Liang, and Jo Garcia, playing respectively on the flute, harp and cello, beautifully capturing the sound of the goldfinch: ever a symbol of hope and life, even in the midst of great deprivation.
But may the gentleness of the music not mask the suffering of noisy and overcrowded prisons, overstrained nerves and desperately hurting hearts.
May these words and music inspire prayer for the Lord Jesus to bridge the walls and draw close to many, and to bring the song of the Lord, and the vibrancy of fresh hope right into the heart of many prisoners. To their families, too, who in many cases are suffering equally.
This can only be a starter for ten, of course, and in no way comprehensive, so if you feel led to pray for Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal or other countries and situations that I have not mentioned, please just go for it when the track itself ends.
