Tai-Ex opening
The Tai-Ex opened down 70-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 21,733 on turnover of 3.4-billion N-T.
The market made solid gains on Wednesday - as investor interest in large-cap tech and financial stocks resumed following several sessions of consolidation.
Market watchers say the gains came as Wall Street has held-up better than expected after Moody's downgraded America's credit rating, which has helped to restore (恢復) investor confidence.
Optimism surrounding the A-I boom has been encouraged by announcements at Computex in Taipei this week - which lifted the electronics sub-index by 1.45-per cent during yesterday's session.
AIT director optimistic about Taiwan-US tariff talks
American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene is expressing his optimism about ongoing trade negotiations between Taipei and Washington.
According to Greene, he's confident that ultimately the talks will create a system that is much fairer to American workers, but also one that benefits ( 對……有益) major trading partners, especially trading partners like Taiwan.
The A-I-T director is refusing to offer any specifics on the bilateral talks - saying only, the discussions are going quite smoothly.
However, Greene says bilateral ties between Taiwan and the U-S remain "extremely robust," despite concerns from some in Taiwan that relations will be overshadowed by the tariffs.
MOE announces guidelines for schools mobile device ban
The Ministry of Education has announced a series of draft guidelines aimed at governing the use of mobile devices in schools.
The guidleines have been released a week after Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao said schools will ban students from bringing phones or other mobile devices into classrooms beginning in September.
According to the education ministry, the policy for elementary and junior-high schools takes into consideration that they are considered minors and they will need permission (許可) from a parent or legal guardian to bring a mobile device on campus.
High schools will have more flexible rules.
Under those rules… students, parents and teachers will jointly decide on how to set the regulations for mobile device use on campus.

Iran won't stop enriching uranium: Tehran
Iran’s top diplomat is insisting that Tehran will never stop enriching uranium. It further underlines the Islamic Republic’s red line in negotiations with the United States over its rapidly advancing (進步) nuclear program.
The comments Wednesday by Iran's foreign minister come after multiple rounds of talks between the two nations.
Iran’s foreign ministry later confirmed it has agreed to take part in the next round of talks Friday in Rome.
U-S officials including President Donald Trump and Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff maintain that Iran must give up enrichment — something it didn’t do in its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
