MODA to bring Threads under its anti-fraud regulatory framework
The Ministry of Digital Affairs says it will officially place Threads under
its anti-fraud regulatory framework from September 15.
According to the ministry, the text-based social media app is being included
under regulatory management as it has a growing number of users in Taiwan and
poses the risk of it being used to publish fraudulent advertisements.
It's the seventh online advertising platform to have regulated under the
Fraud Crime Hazard Prevention Act - which went into effect in July of last
year.
The Act was introduced as part of efforts to push major online platform
operators Meta, Line, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and Google to implement
stronger anti-fraud measures.
The law requires platforms to verify (核實) advertisers, develop anti-fraud
strategies, and promptly remove fraudulent content upon request.
They must also publish transparency reports detailing their efforts at
combating online fraud.

Ethiopia Dam Completed
Ethiopia’s prime minister says the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the
Nile has been completed.
Egypt has long opposed (反對) the dam as a potential threat to its water
supply.
Egypt relies almost entirely on the Nile for agriculture and its population
of over 100 million.
Ethiopia disputes these concerns and plans to officially inaugurate (發動)
the dam soon.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia's growth would not come
at the expense of Egypt and Sudan.
The dam, on the Blue Nile near the Sudan border, already generates power and
ultimately (最終) is expected to double Ethiopia's electricity output.
