The Brooklyn Botanic Garden was built on a coal ash dump in Crown Heights over a century ago to ensure green space for future Brooklynites.
Today, the garden is home to over 8,000 different plant species, including rare and endangered cacti, orchids and bonsai.
But Crown Heights is gentrifying, and the plants and people living in the shadow of a changing skyline are facing the extinction of their generational home.
