Join Ulrike Seminati as she talks about a foundational element of self-awareness. In this episode, Ulrike will unveil one very important element on how you can come closer to finding out who you truly are and what you truly stand for. Are you someone who makes decisions based on rational arguments but regret it afterwards? Are you that person who is worried about making a decision you might guilt later? If you are, then this episode is for you!

The Value of Values

Values lead you in one direction whenever a decision is to be made. Therefore, defining your values is the only route to authenticity, the key to communicating with charisma. It is crucial to pinpoint personal values as these will materialize specific goals in life that drive, motivate, and inspire you. If personal values are not pointed out, it will result in setting goals that do not correspond to the authentic self, thus going in the wrong direction. Getting clarity about your values ground you in who you are and who you want to be. Moreover, making decisions is an easy feat if values are already identified. People who know their values feel much safer in what they do. They are more courageous when standing up for their opinion and are more consistent with their actions. They establish their trustworthiness in their environment, letting their charisma exude.

Own It

Having values that you truly own is essential to your personal life and your business life. Ulrike gives an anecdote of a leader she worked with. She asks her if she has values, and the leader said yes, then provided three – performance, innovation, and creativity. Ulrike and the leader went into a discussion to dig deeper into where these values were coming from. They found out that her true values were not the three she mentioned earlier. Instead, those values were conditioned and biased by her current work environment. So, what is the point? Why is it not good to have values that fit your current work environment? The answer to that is because decisions made according to wrong values are made in a way that does not do justice to your authentic self. It will make you feel bad about yourself. You will feel guilty about how the decision was implemented. Worst, there will be regret. Therefore, it is important to own your values to be as authentic as you can be.
