Week 3 Depression
For five weeks, we will be tackling issues that have raged out of control over the last couple of years like anxiety, anger, depression, hurry and addiction. Our goal is to let God help us through these hard times, so that when challenges hit us and we start to feel it on the inside, we’ll have the tools to work it out.
- Millions of people in this country and worldwide suffer from depression. Dr. Mike Garrett, Executive Director of Christian Counseling Associates of Raleigh, gives us insight into depression and how to address it from a christian perspective.
Statistics about Depression:
- 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression.
- 17 million Americans currently suffer from depression.
- Anxiety screenings are up 634% since last January.
- Depression screenings are up 873% since January of last year.
9 Primary Features of Depression:
- Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day
- Loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities
- Decrease or increase in appetite
- Insomnia or hypersomnia (too little or too much sleep)
- Feelings of restlessness or sluggishness
- Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
- Inability to think or concentrate clearly (brain fog)
- Recurrent thought of death or suicide
4 Different Types of Depression:
- Biochemical Depression
- Situational Depression
- Toxic Depression
- Spiritual Depression
