More than the church having a mission, God’s mission has a church. Jesus’ first mention of the church states that “the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” This statement describes God's mission as offensively confronting the powers of decay and darkness in this world, and indicates that engagement in a piece of that mission is an essential ingredient to being the “church”. We have been commissioned with the task of, as salt and light, advancing His kingdom in the earth. Simply put our mission is to fix broken things and light up dark places.
By looking at Jesus’ ways and considering His parting words we see that this is to be accomplished by going throughout the world DECLARING good news, DISPLAYING the kingdom of heaven, and DISCIPLING people in Jesus’ ways. Simply put we will naturally engage in the mission to make the world a better place (like heaven) when we look at Jesus and seek to behave more like Him.

Question: If Jesus were in the flesh in our city today, where do you believe He would often be found and what would He be doing?
Action Step: The answer to this question may very well be the where and what to which He is calling you.
