“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." - Billy Graham
“What Greatness looks like”.
Matthew 20:20-28 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. 21 “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
Matthew 20:22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. So that means they're standing behind their mom.
Matthew 20:22 “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”
Matthew 20:25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you.
26 Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”.
Jesus is inviting us to greatness!
God is not trying to move you from greatness to servanthood. He wants to move you to greatness through servanthood.
Servanthood is choosing to take the virtue of serving and using it as a strength to help you accomplish great things for the kingdom of God.
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Anyone can be great, because anyone can serve”
Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”.
Jesus is the greatest man who ever lived because Jesus was the greatest servant who ever lived?
God is a servant.
You look the most like God when you’re serving.
1. Jesus served big needs
2. Jesus served small needs
3. Jesus served ugly needs
4. Jesus served servers
Luke 9:12 “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” 13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”
