Welcome to episode #126! Matt and Braden dig into growing your emotional maturity, which will help you have success in your journey out of sexual bondage!
Emotional quotient is vital
Our emotional quotient is the combination of understanding how to identify and steward emotions and then being able to implement what we know. First, we have to learn to actually be aware of what we are feeling. Then, we need to learn how to control our emotions so that they don't run our days - for better or for worse. Learning how to have our emotions subjected to, and led by, the Holy Spirit is vital. EQ is more important than IQ in terms of having success in anything in life.
Porn affects emotional development in the brain
Porn consumption affects the way our brains respond to emotional events in our lives. When we consume porn, the parts of our brains that initiate the rational thinking necessary to control emotions gets squashed and under-developed. This is why self-awareness regarding which emotions we feel is so important, along with learning what to do when we feel the rush of emotions.
Jesus was emotional, but didn't let them control Him
When Jesus got angry, He fashioned a whip before going to flip the tables of the moneychangers in the temple. He didn't just act in a rage, but instead planned His response. He also got angry because the moneychangers were offending His Father, not because of a personal attack against Him. When we take things personally, our reactions are going to be emotionally immature, which opens the door to sin in our lives. When we die to ourselves and learn to overlook offence, the emotions we feel especially in hard times are going to have less of a hold on our lives.
