In this episode, Matt and Braden chat with Brad and Lisa Valencia (hosts of the Unrelenting Pursuit podcast) about what restoring their marriage looked like after Brad's affair almost led them to divorce.
You need guardrails in your marriage
Brad had to rebuild trust with Lisa and he did it through establishing guardrails in their marriage. She was able to see his phone any time and he wouldn't go to places that in the past had let him stumble. Guardrails keep us from going off the cliff so that we can continue on the path that we're on, even when we start to get sidetracked.
Be patient with your partner's process
Lisa was further along in her relationship with Jesus, but realized that she couldn't push Brad to pursue Jesus before he wanted to himself. When Brad made the decision to go deeper in his own relationship with Jesus, they met with a pastor and shared it all. The pastor's response was a gift from God as he spoke life and belief into them that their story would be used for good. The timing of this was able to happen because Lisa didn't push Brad by demanding he do something he may not have chosen on his own.
Pride is a killer
Pride is what led to Brad's affairs and we need to lose pride in our lives if we're going to live with honesty and transparency. When you realize that you don't have to be perfect or know it all, there's a huge freedom that comes in just being able to be you - an imperfect human on a journey of growth, fully loved by God.
