Welcome to episode #96!

In this episode, Matt and Braden talk about sexual compatibility, and whether it holds up or if it is potentially damaging our ideas surrounding sex.

We are different- and that is ok!
Our society elevates the idea of sexual compatibility, and often it is rooted in the idea that we need to be the same sexually with our partner, in libido, desire, and in our needs. If we don't have these similarities with our partner, then we are "not" sexually compatible, and are probably with the wrong person. But this idea builds the concept that sex needs to be fireworks from day one, otherwise we don't have proper chemistry. But where this idea falters, is that God has built differences and "incompatibility" into sexual intimacy, because sex is so much more than just a self-serving physical act. It is powerful and it takes time to grow together, and because we are so different, true intimacy is something that we learn together as we navigate our God-given differences.

Sex and marriage go hand in hand.
Because sex is such a vulnerable and powerful act, it designed by God to be experienced in marriage. So the idea of sexual compatibility is inconsistent with Gods design, because it sets us on a path to finding our spouse through sex. But God designed sex to be enjoyed by husband and wife, as they learn one another, and serve one another, building intimacy in a marriage relationship. So it is something that is cultivated over time with one person, our spouse, not multiple partners searching for that sought after "compatibility" to determine who we should be with.
