Welcome to episode #98!
In this episode, Matt and Braden talk with Travis and Adelle Graham from The Noble Marriage about how to talk through hard issues in marriage, the consequences of staying silent, and the beauty of learning to be real.
Travis and Adelle swept big issues under the rug
Travis and Adelle didn't know how to communicate when red flags and concerns arose. Adelle was scared of talking about pornography because she worried didn't know how to handle it if her fears were confirmed. Travis was molested as a child, which contributed to feeling unsafe when talking about certain issues. A lack of communicating will always lead to bigger issues and isolation in our lives and marriages.
In isolation we become very small and ineffective
When we are isolated, we don't open up and become subconsciously focused on ourselves and our own pain. God can use our stories, but He wants us to be able to talk about our stories and our hardships first. Isolating ourselves by entering marriage with walls up, hinders our connection, our satisfaction, and our ability to impact others.
Being known is awesome!
We are made to be known and to be real! In marriage, it's awesome to be able to be fully open and fully real with our spouses! It's scary to be real when we never have been before and when we don't know how the other person will react, but when we realize that we are safe to share in marriage and that it helps heal our hearts, we can only then be our true, authentic selves!
