This week, we bring you a new installment of Quiz And Hers all about new installments, aka sequels!* Justin has six new questions about favorite franchises and foolish follow-ups.  We also talk European history, early cinema, and the evolution of languages!

*(Loosely construed)

1:53: Q1 (Sounds & Screen): The first-ever film sequel is usually thought to be a 1916 film that cashed in on the massive success of what controversial 1915 masterpiece by D. W. Griffith, which portrayed the Ku Klux Klan as a crusading force for good?

8:35: Q2 (Sports & Games): The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930, and its sequel, in 1934, had the usual sequel tropes: it was bigger, with 16 teams instead of four in the tournament stage, but ultimately the same story: the host country won it all. Name either of these host-champions, one from South America, one from Europe, both still powerhouses in association football.

15:29: Q3 (Times & Places): If World War II is the sequel to World War I, then what war, fought on the Iberian Peninsula from 1936 to 1939, is the largely-forgotten interquel that originated a lot of what would be seen in World War II?

23:49: Q4 (Arts & Literature): John Milton’s most famous work has a much less well-known sequel, titled this, Regained.

31:27: Q5 (Everything Else): Creole languages are linguistic sequels, of a sort, as they usually develop when a generation of children learn a simpler type of mixed language as their native tongue.  What is the term for this kind of language, which derives from a Chinese pronunciation of the word “business”, and not from a type of bird?

40:47: Q6 (Science): Isaac Newton followed up on the Principia Mathematica when he published the results of his investigations into the diffraction and dispersion of light, in a book best known by what one-word title, also the name of the modern branch of physics concerned with light?
