TRANSCRIPT FOR EP7:
Welcome to SHE is Confident. Hi! This is Deon Teh and in this episode, I will be sharing with you about Money and opportunity.
When I was young, my concept of money would be that if you are rich, this means you are good or smart and, if you are poor means you are not.
Therefore, I always dont have a good feeling about money. However, even though my family is not rich but I do like money.
When I grow up, my money concept still did not change because Looking at how hard my parents worked, we were still not very rich.
It was not until I read Kim Kiyosaki’s book on Rising Times that changed my Mind-set on money.
In her book, she mentioned that The nature of money is to circulate, by doing so it will produce value.
Money is not evil, we should learn to love it and unify with it.
When we use it correctly, it can be a useful tool to help ourselves and others.
In my previous episode, I talked about how I used my money on a professional course for learning financial management skills and applied it to my work and this led to me having an opportunity to the next level of my career.
How do we use right money concept to get opportunities for more money or more time? and how does it play an important part to our self?
Firstly, for me, I used to have many unused stuff that I kept, I didn’t give any thoughts on what to do with them and all were collecting dust at home and in my storeroom. In the past, I will never think of selling these items, even if they were spolit, I would just keep them inside my store room believing that it is too wasteful to throw away.
After reading Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Kid Smart Kid, I realised that I have potential money lying at home and in order to get the money, I must first sell my items away.
I started to put them online to sell, even a spolit toy of my son. I was able to sell it off, top up some money and buy another toy for him.
Give a reason why this is my take away
By selling the unwanted items online, I was able to declutter my house and have a cleaner living environment for my family. The items are able to fetch some money which I can use to buy other things or save up.
During this exercise, I am also able to think twice before buying. This has lead to fewer items in the house.
Based on my working experience, I believe that we should hire people to help us with specific tasks, such as a tuition teacher or a nanny. Many times, we want to save money by doing it yourself and we ended up being unhappy doing it. Maybe because we are not the expert and cannot do it well or it is not our interest to do it.
But have you consider that if you were to get the right people to do the right job, you can free up your time to do other things like looking for other opportunities.
Take my son, for example, I can teach him or guide him in his school work, however this will mean that I need to spend my time to learn and teach him. I might not even know how to teach him according to his school syllabus and I will have to spend time to read up and learn it. In the end, both my son and I will suffer. So, I hired a tuition teacher who is better equipped with the knowledge and experience to help my son.
I also hired a nanny who can help me to take care of my son after school, cook meals for us, this helps me to save time so that I can focus on my work and spend quality time with family after work.
Money can help you to do more with less.
Money opportunities are everywhere, you just have to start looking for it. Most often, it is just around you.
Start small, every $1 earned can be saved up for other use. You dont have to wait till you earn big bucks before you can start something.
Nothing happens until something moves. If you want opportunities in your life, you have to look out for it, create it and take action.
Just like water flowing in a river, it can bring you to your destination, or would you prefer to be in a pond of stagnant water, stuck and unable to move forward.
Having the right money concepts have certainly help me in getting more time, saving more money and better opportunities in life.
