Welcome to SHE is Confident. Hi! This is Deon Teh and in this episode, I will be sharing with you about Money and investing.
When I was young, my concept of money would be that if you are rich, this means you are good or smart and, if you are poor means you are not.
Therefore, I always don’t have a good feeling about money. However, even though my family is not rich but I do like money.
When I grow up, my money concept still did not change because Looking at how hard my parents worked, we were still not very rich.
It was not until I read Kim Kiyosaki’s book on Rising Times that changed my Mind-set on money.
In her book, she mentioned that The nature of money is to circulate, by doing so it will produce value.
Money is not evil, we should learn to love it and unify with it.
When we use it correctly, it can be a useful tool to help ourselves and others.
In my previous episode, I talked about how I used my money concepts to get opportunities for more money or more time.
In the past, I thought that by investing a lump sum of money will help me to earn more money. As I mentioned in my previous episode that I have lost a few thousand dollars. My friends’ friend who introduced me to the investment, told me that it is easy money and all I have to do is to put in a sum of money and wait for weekly returns. I was greedy and think that money is so easy to earn by following what other people are doing. In the end, I did not get back my money and I learned a lesson.
It was partly my fault as I did not know what exactly they were doing. This is very dangerous and is no different from gambling your money away. It is a terrible mindset and the worst way of losing your money. There is no free lunch in this world. You will have put in the effort to understand what you are going to invest in, not blindly follow.
Through this failed experience, I became aware of this weakness and began to seek for answers by reading up more books on investment.
There are many types of investment in the market and knowing more about how the investment works, will allow you to make better decisions. Take myself for instance, after reading in-depth on stocks and shares investing, I understand that this type of investment is not my interest and I will not be able to perform well.
Besides the professional Accounting course that I signed up 10 years ago, I didn’t spend any more money to invest or upgrade myself.
In my years of managing the company, I find myself lacking in the skillsets or knowledge to bring the company to the next level. I started reading again to self-help.
After reading Robert and Kim Kiyosaki’s books, my mindset was shifted again and there was an opportunity to meet Kim live in Singapore. I decided to upgrade myself to attend the Rich Woman workshop which Kim was the main speaker.
During the workshop, Genecia Alluora was one of the speaker who talked about helping businesses to go from offline to online. Coincidentally, I wanted to learn online marketing & Sales to help my company.
Thinking back, if I did not want to invest in myself and attend, I would not have the chance to meet my mentor, Genecia and pursue my dreams.
In my company, I need to handle a lot of interpersonal relationships, problems, and issues together with our HR department. There were many resignations and conflicts between departments. I was unable to resolve it and was looking for solutions. In the end, I decided to sign up for an online course that teaches basic psychology for daily practical use.
Throughout this learning, I learned that in order to change others, I need to change myself first.
I applied it on myself, and I am able to see things more clearly than before and able to handle the HR issues easily.
Don’t blindly follow people to invest and with in-depth knowledge, we will know what we want and what is suitable to our self and make better choices.
Instead of blaming others for your failure, you have to self reflect first.
By further upgrading yourself, it will bring you to another new level that you might not expect,
I did so by having the right money concepts and investing in myself first, and it has certainly help me in my life.
