Title
The Redheaded Stepchild Problem: Why Side Projects Rarely Survive on Scraps
Opening Reflection
- Examining an old phrase and the uncomfortable truth behind it
- The metaphor: something belongs, but isn’t treated like it belongs
Core Idea
- We often expect important results from things we only casually support
In Business
Side projects often start with:
- Excitement
- Opportunity
- Strong ideas
But later receive:
- Leftover time
- Split attention
- Weak ownership
- Minimal resources
In Personal Life
The same pattern happens with:
- Health goals
- Writing
- Relationships
- Learning
- Faith
- Personal growth
They get the “leftovers” of energy and time
The Real Problem
- Desire alone is not enough
- Caring about something doesn’t guarantee growth
- Without structure, support, and consistency, progress stalls
What Growth Requires
- Ownership
- Time allocation
- Attention
- Commitment
- Clear priority
