Description

Dr. Rhoda Bernard, founder and managing director of The Berklee  Institute for Accessible Arts Education is proud to present the ABLE  Voices podcast featuring artists and arts educators with disabilities.

We are inviting disabled artists and arts educators to be guests and  guest hosts on ABLE Voices. Today's guest host is UK based musician,  Alex James Kennedy. Alex James is a singer, songwriter, multi  instrumentalist and teacher from the northeast of England. Alex lives  with a rare genetic muscle wasting condition called Duchenne muscular  dystrophy (DMD). For today's episode, Alex will be speaking with Miss  Jacqui.  Miss Jacqui is a poet, songwriter, spoken word artist and facilitator.

An experienced performer and recording artist, Miss Jacqui believes  music is a universal language and knows a great deal about working with  the cards that you are dealt. She is someone who always tries to  challenge societal perceptions, like what it actually means to be a  black woman with a disability. A wheelchair user herself, Miss Jacqui  wants her poetry and music to help her listeners to see the world  differently, and to inspire others to feel confident in being  themselves.

The ABLE Voices podcast is produced and edited by BIAAE Operations  Coordinator, Daniel Martinez del Campo. The introduction music was  written by Kai Levin and the ending song was written by Sebastian  Batista. Kai and Sebastian are students in the Arts Education Programs  at the Berklee Institute for Accessible Arts Education.
