[Mat 22:35-39 NKJV]
35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked [Him a question], testing Him, and saying,
36 "Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?"
37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
38 "This is [the] first and great commandment.
39 "And [the] second [is] like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
Jesus was answering a question about the Law.
Law was First Covenant - w/ people of Israel.
Jesus - New Covenant in my blood - Eucharist - Communion
Jesus never commanded that his followers love God . . . neighbor
That was the Law of Moses
Rom 3:30 - No one will be made right w/ God by keeping the law
Xans trying to do this – you are trying to live by Law
Jesus ~ Jn 13:34 - New commandment: Love each other as I have loved you.
Truth: First have to accept Jesus’ love for you. Then Love others.
Application: Our primary job as followers of Jesus is to let him love us.
Then we love each other like that.
