Suzanne Yatim Aslam is Former Miss Arab USA, activist and actor turned author whose most recent book, Post Pardon Me, addresses the dark thoughts that so many mothers have but are too scared to say out loud. She's thrilled to get this book into the hands of mothers who may be struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety.
From Suzanne:
It's a dark comedy on postpartum depression. I take you on a journey through my early stages of motherhood as you read journal entries from that time as I'm spiraling. The thing is, for half the book, I don't know that it's postpartum depression. I just thought being a mom sucked and that my son ruined my life.
I thought being a mom meant that I couldn’t have the rest of my life available to me. I thought I had to buy a minivan, put on that apron, and shut the hell up about topics of the day. Lord, I was so wrong. In motherhood, just like in life, it is what you make it. And I want it, motherhood, to be big and loud and soft and quiet and whatever it is that I need it to be.
Depression takes those thoughts away from you. It lies to you and tells you that you can’t have the life you want. When the fog cleared, I saw the life I wanted, and I made it. I’m the boss now.
