Jill Devine has talked about her faith a few times in previous episodes, but not in depth. She has been growing her faith and learning more about Christ but has a lot to learn. She recently learned of a new podcast, Table Forty, which focuses on organic conversations about Jesus and life. It’s hosted by former St. Louis Cardinal Matt Holliday and his wife, Leslee Holliday. Jill reached out to Leslee to see if she would be a guest on the podcast and discuss her faith and how we turn to Christ on an everyday basis and even more so with the turmoil we are experiencing in the year 2020.
Leslee explained she has been a Christian for a long time and she really started to strengthen her faith while she was in college. She said when someone says they are a Christian, it can be blurry and not everyone knows what that means, including the individual who claims to be a Christian. In 2015, her close friend was getting divorced and the Christian community she was involved in treated her friend coldly because of the divorce. That incident made her want to learn even more about Christ and what scripture says about these types of situations, so she started reading lots of books and then she enrolled in school and is majoring in biblical studies. All of this led to the development of Table Forty.
Leslee and Jill discussed the different topics discussed on Table Forty and the different guests Matt and Leslee welcome to the “Table”. One thing Matt and Leslee discuss with their guests is the Great Commission. Jill was unsure what the Great Commission was, so she and Leslee talked about it.
The Hollidays are really good friends with Adam and Jenny Wainwright and Jill asked Leslee her thoughts about Jenny’s recent tweet about their adopted son who is black and what scripture says about racism. Leslee gave a great analogy by telling the “Starfish Story”. Ultimately, she told Jill “we need to learn some history and engage in an open perspective”.
