Recently, Jill Devine received an email from Jen Singleton about a potential podcast guest. Jen is a Partner at Socially Inspired and was a guest in Season 1, Episode 16: Three Female Entrepreneurs Share Their Thoughts About Being A Working Mom
Jen is also part of the HeyMama community, which is a community for working moms. They connect mothers who are growing careers and families.
Another member of the HeyMama community sent out an email to the group in search of being a guest on a podcast and this was the guest Jen referred to Jill. Here’s the email:
Hi Everyone,
I am honored to be a part of a community of such amazing women! I recently published a book on Amazon, "Momtras: Mantras For Mindful Moms" and am looking for opportunities to speak to groups about balancing motherhood and the deep transformation that occurs when you step into motherhood.
I'm a former corporate communications professional who took the leap into entrepreneurship at two weeks postpartum - birthing a baby and a company in the same year!
A few sample topics that I love to speak about:
I look forward to connecting! Feel free to reach out to me directly at kristine@ommommas.com and connect with me on Instagram: @kristine_mcglinchey and @ommommas
Jill invited Kristine on the podcast and all the above was discussed and even more, such as:
*How the corporate world can help and prepare you for entrepreneurship.
*Women supporting women.
*We don’t have to choose one thing to be good at. We can be a good mother AND a good businesswoman.
*Asking for help.
New to Season 4, the Supermom Shoutout! Jill would like to acknowledge and recognize the hard work moms put in on the daily. It can be a thankless job at times, and Jill wants these moms to know their worth. This week’s Supermom Shoutout goes to Dawn of St. Louis, MO! Her Aunt Jody, nominated her and said:
Dawn tried several times to have children with her husband, Bill. Fast forward, they ended up adopting two beautiful children from Ethiopia, Noah and Zoe.
Last year, when they got home after celebrating Dawn’s birthday, Bill went out on the deck. After a while, Noah ran in to his mom and said his dad’s head was laying on the table and he got sick. Dawn ran out there and unfortunately, Bill passed away at the age of 53 from a heart attack.
Dawn is now raising their children by herself and there’s an added layer of emotion, turmoil and confusion because she is now dealing with race and racism. Noah was called a racial slur by a teammate on his soccer team and he didn’t know what it meant, so he asked his mom. She is now trying to teach both of her kids what it’s like to be black in America and the Black Lives Matter movement. All the emotions she has been through and the strength she shows is remarkable.
Dawn – YOU are seen and YOU are supported!
