Description

There are many types of caves in life, metaphorically speaking. The Old Testament character David was most likely in the cave of Adullam (1 Samuel 22), or perhaps he was in the cave at En Gedi (1 Samuel 24). Whichever cave he was in, he left some "writing on the wall of his cave" for us so that we would know how to respond to dark circumstances that can arise in life. Most importantly, he left some instructions on how to get out of the cave. So, let’s pick up the lantern of God’s Word and read how he said we can escape from a dark place like depression, sorrow, guilt, hopelessness, conflict with toxic people, or something similar.

In seven quick verses, David presents a call to pray whenever we are trapped in the darkness of the following seven possible “caves" of human experience. Each cave is a time to talk with our Heavenly Father.

1.     Time of Personal Limitation, 142:1
2.     Time of Verbal Frustration, 142:2
3.     Time of Relational Aggravation, 142:2
4.     Time of Emotional Vacillation, 142:3, 7
5.     Time of Physical Trepidation, 142:3, 6
6.     Time of Social Separation, 142:4
7.     Time of Spiritual Desperation, 142:4-6
