Mercy is an attribute of God. A.W. Tozer writes about it in volume 1 of his magnificent work, “The Attributes of God”. Regarding mercy, Tozer writes, “…mercy is not something God has, but something God is.” If you have never read this book, I encourage you to pick up a copy. I led our church through a study of volumes 1 and 2 on Sunday nights, and we were so blessed to focus not on a “how to” topic in the Scriptures but to walk alongside of Tozer as we magnified the Lord together. It was so rich and meaningful.
Psalm 103 starts out by urging us not to forget the incredible "benefit package" we have when living for the Lord (103:1-6). But then, the psalmist drops us out of the equation and only exalts the character of God. Let’s see what we can observe from Psalm 103:7-18 regarding God's attribute of mercy.
